The Parish of Caminha-Matriz is the village of Caminha itself. Surrounded by natural barriers establishing its boundaries are: the river Miño to the north and west; in the North and East direction the Coura River, which in Caminha, flows into the Minho River, providing the village with spectacular scenery. The village of Caminha, also known as the 'Beautiful Marinheira', is sheltered from the winds by the Monte de Santo Antão, on the Portuguese side, and by the Monte de Santa Tecla, in Galicia, on the other bank of the river Minho, hence this parish offers a pleasant climate throughout the year, considering its location, in the area of the northern coastal region in which it is inserted.
With so many attractions, it is not surprising that it is one of the most important parts of a true 'Mosaic of Landscapes' of the municipality of Caminha.
Considering its built heritage: the historic area with its walled area, with emphasis on the old gate of Viana which is the well-known Clock Tower, the Mother Church and the Church of Misericórdia. Also worth mentioning are the Church of St. Anthony and St. Clara, the Chapels of Our Lady of Agony and St. John, the Fountain of Terreiro, the House of Pitas, the House of Leiras and the Town Hall, among others.
