O seu local original situava-se a cerca de 200m da frontaria da igreja, na íngreme encosta ocidental, em terra de semeadura, de difícil acesso o que lhe dava um ar de abandono e à mercê da maquinaria agrícola, tendo sido colocado nesse local um marco em mármore indicativo.

A edificação da igreja paroquial de Nossa Senhora das Neves, nas primícias denominada Santa Maria das Neves, é anterior a 1534, pois, nessa data, por determinação do Padre António Pereira, sofreu a ampliação do seu altar-mor e foram demolidas as casas do ermitão que estavam ligadas ao corpo da igreja e procedeu-se ao arrendamento do adro e do passal do curado.'
