Quando o Brito Camacho foi nomeado primeiro-ministro, os messejanenses pensaram logo em tirar proveito da costela conterrânea do governante. Uma comissão de notáveis foi recebida pelo patrício ministro que, serenamente, ouviu das suas reivindicações. Queremos isto, mais isto e aquilo e ainda isto, olhe, e ainda esquecíamos mais isto. Com a fina ironia alentejana que tão bem soube expor nos seus escritos, Brito Camacho, perguntou maliciosamente se, para além daquilo tudo, não quereriam também uma praia lá para a terra. A comissão de notáveis, empolgada com a abertura do governante, ripostou de imediato: arranje então lá a água, que a areia arranjamos nós!
Durante anos a palavra praia esteve erradicada do vocabulário messejanense. Ainda há poucos anos aquando da construção do depósito de água, a malandragem de Aljustrel comentava: os da praia já tem farol e tudo...!'

For years the word beach was eradicated from the Messejanense vocabulary. Only a few years ago when the water tank was built, the trickster of Aljustrel commented: the ones on the beach already have a lighthouse and everything...!'
