Monchique é uma vila portuguesa no distrito de Faro, região e sub-região do Algarve, é sede de município com 395,30 km² de área e 5465 habitantes (censo de 2021), subdividido em 3 freguesias. O município é limitado a norte pelo município de Odemira, a leste por Silves, a sul por Portimão, a sudoeste por Lagos e a Oeste por Aljezur. O concelho de Monchique foi criado em 1773, por desmembramento do concelho de Silves.

A cestaria e a tecelagem constituem a grande parte do artesanato tradicional de Monchique. Por ser também uma região rica em sobreiros, é possível que haja igualmente artesãos a trabalhar a cortiça.

Monchique é conhecido pela suinicultura, e prova disso são os conhecidos enchidos feitos com carne de porco (molho, morcela de farinha ou farinheira, morcela e chouriça) e presuntos, expostos anualmente na Feira dos Enchidos e na Feira do Presunto.

É também vastamente conhecida a aguardente de medronho produzida nesta região, com marca própria, que atrai gente de toda a parte para a saborear. São também procurados os licores feitos com produtos da região, a bebida licorosa mais típica de Monchique chama-se Melosa, que utiliza aguardente de medronho.

No que toca a doçaria regional, Monchique tem como principal doce típico o bolo de tacho.

Monchique is a Portuguese village in the district of Faro, region and sub-region of the Algarve, is the headquarters of a municipality with 395.30 km² of area and 5465 inhabitants (2021 census), subdivided into 3 parishes. The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Odemira, to the east by Silves, to the south by Portimão, to the southwest by Lagos and to the west by Aljezur. The municipality of Monchique was created in 1773, by dismemberment of the municipality of Silves.

Basketry and weaving are the big part of Monchique's traditional craftsmanship. Because it is also a region rich in cork oaks, it is possible that there are also artisans working on cork.

Monchique is known for pig farming, and proof of this are the well-known sausages made with pork (sauce, flour or farinheira morcela, morcela and chorizo) and hams, exhibited annually at the Sausage Fair and ham fair.

It is also widely known the medronho brandy produced in this region, with its own brand, which attracts people from everywhere to taste it. Also sought after are liqueurs made with products from the region, the most typical liqueur drink of Monchique is called Melosa, which uses medronho brandy.

When it comes to regional sweets, Monchique has as its main typical sweet the pot cake.
