O fontanário existente no actual Largo Luís de Camões, também comummente conhecido por Largo das Cinco Bicas, ganhou nos seus relativamente curtos quase cento e quarenta anos de existência, o epíteto de 'Fonte das Cinco Bicas'.
O Largo e o seu fontanário encontram-se envolvidos numa nebulosa de mistificações e enganos que formam um conjunto significativo de deturpações e mal entendidos. Repor a verdade sobre o largo e o seu chafariz implica um pequeno mergulho na História da cidade, em particular dessa área.
O espaço da confluência de duas das mais antigas saídas do burgo aveirense em direcção a sul (a rua de S. Sebastião) e para os então campos e arrabaldes do burgo aveirense (a rua de S. Martinho) definiu uma praça de forma triangular que em tempos idos funcionava como adro de uma igreja - a Igreja do Espírito Santo. A rua que saía dessa confluência de vias em direcção à Porta da Vila designava-se por rua do Espírito Santo (hoje rua Eça de Queirós). A igreja do Espírito Santo e respectivo adro ficavam, assim, localizados na base desse triângulo isósceles que apontava a norte. Da igreja não se sabe muito. Mas sabe-se que já existia em 1572 ano em que Aveiro foi dividida em quatro freguesias e foi ela própria elevada à categoria de igreja paroquial, tornando-se por isso a sede da nova freguesia do Espírito Santo a quem deu também o nome.

Largo das Cinco Bicas, gained in its relatively short almost one hundred and forty years of
existence, the epithet of 'Fonte das Cinco Bicas'.
Largo and his fontanário are involved in a nebula of mystifications and deceptions
which form a significant set of misrepresented and misunderstood. Re-re-rescan the truth about
the square and its fountain involves a small dip in the history of the city, in particular of this
area.
The space of the confluence of two of the oldest exits of the aveirense village towards the south
(the street of S. Sebastião) and to the then fields and arrabaldes of the aveirense village (the street of S.
Martin) defined a square of triangular shape that once functioned as a church-building of
church - the Church of the Holy Spirit. The street that came out of this confluence of roads towards the
Porta da Vila was called the street of Espírito Santo (today Eça de Queirós street). The Church of the Spirit
Saint and his churchwas thus located at the base of this isosceles triangle that
pointed north. Not much is known about the church. But it is known that it already existed in 1572 years in which
Aveiro was divided into four parishes and was itself elevated to the category of parish church,
thus becoming the place of the new parish of Espírito Santo to whom it also gave its name.
