Já foi Vila e Concelho, e pertenceu á comarca de Esgueira e ao Bispo de Coimbra. Só posteriormente passou para Aveiro.

About the history of 'Heerada', there is to note the possession of the place by Diogo Mendes who, in 1181, gave it, with his church of St. Peter, to the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra. Due to this donation, the landlord was of the crúzios, represented not by the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra, but by the convent of Serra do Pilar (Vila Nova de Gaia), branch of the first, having the vicar the annual income of 150,000 kings. It was once a town and municipality, and belonged to the district of Esgueira and the Bishop of Coimbra. Only later passed to Aveiro.
