O Jardim da Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques dobra-se sobre as encostas do antigo Vale de Arroios, em Lisboa, com precisão geométrica, intersectando a Avenida Almirante Reis, em baixo, e criando a sua própria rua circundante ao jardim denominada Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques.

Ao centro, entre a Avenida Almirante Reis e a Rua Actor, prolonga-se o mesmo jardim por mais 5000 metros quadrados de relva, mas agora completamente plano e apoiado por um conjunto de aparelhos destinados ao exercício físico e um parque infantil.

Por fim, a terceira parte representa o ex-libris do jardim, a magnífica Fonte Monumental. Foi inaugurada em 1948 para lançar cortinas de água em força sobre os tanques e esculturas de pedra, durante o dia, transformando-se em Fonte Luminosa à noite, como é popularmente conhecida. No seu topo, o terraço de pedra remata outro jardim, desta vez mais denso, natural e irregular.

A fonte funciona nos intervalos horários 12:00 - 15:00 e 18:00 - 23:00, no entanto, só desvenda todo o seu esplendor quinze minutos após o pôr-do-sol, quando a iluminação desperta para os jogos de luz. É possível visitar o seu interior e conhecer a mecânica que lhe deu a primeira vida, todos os sábados, das 15:0017:00.

Por vezes, o seu relvado de 4200 metros costuma ser palco de inúmeros eventos sociais.

Durante o dia todas as idades procuram o jardim para divertimento, desporto ou convívio. Mas quem aqui vive sabe que o Jardim da Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques é um ponto turístico, especialmente à noite, quando a grandeza da Fonte Monumental inspira qualquer um.
